Individual personalities play an essential role in the success – or failure – of a corporate team. Learning how to use each person’s natural strengths can make for better relationships between coworkers and managers & subordinates. The DiSC test was developed just for that purpose, as a sort of workplace-personality test. DiSC is used by over a million people and businesses worldwide, but it is one of the specific methods that we use in our executive coaching services.

The acronym of DiSC stands for dominance (D), influence (i), steadiness (S), and conscientiousness (C). After answering a series of behavioral questions, someone’s test results will reveal which of the four traits are the most dominant in their work style.

People with D personalities tend to be confident and place an emphasis on accomplishing bottom-line results. A person primarily in this DiSC quadrant likes to think of “the big picture” first and foremost. They are confident, sometimes blunt, outspoken, and demanding.

People with i personalities tend to be more open and place an emphasis on relationships and influencing or persuading others. They are enthusiastic, optimistic, open, trusting, and energetic.

People with S personalities tend to be dependable and place the emphasis on cooperation, sincerity, loyalty, and dependability. They have calm, deliberate dispositions, and don’t like to be rushed.

People with C personalities tend to place the emphasis on quality, accuracy, expertise, and competency. They enjoy their independence, demand the details, and often fear being wrong.
